Nov 03, 2009Cdn cities make Gay Travel Awards shortlist
TripOutGayTravel.com, MTV's first travel website, has announced the winners of the first TripOut Gay Travel Awards.
Toronto's annual Pride festivities were honoured as a finalist in the "best annual gay destination party" category. Madrid Pride won the title. Meanwhile, Montreal was chosen as a finalist in the "best global destination" category, which was taken by Rio de Janeiro. Montreal bar Le Drugstore was also up for an award in the "best gay bar in the world" category, but lost out to The Abbey in Los Angeles. More than 100,000 votes were cast to determine the winners in categories such as "sexiest place on Earth," "best gay bar in the world," and "ultimate luxury hotel." "The voting results showcase the places our community loves to visit, where and with whom they choose to spend their time and money, and which destinations and businesses truly excel in welcoming LGBT visitors," said John Polly, TripOutGayTravel.com's editor. The following is a list of all nominees for the TripOut Gay Travel Awards and the winners in each category.
