Khabibulin waived

The Chicago Blackhawks are trying to get rid of G Nikolai Khabibulin.
Making $6.75 million this season, Khabibulin was placed on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Hawks are hoping somebody picks him up, but if not they may place him on re-entry waivers and the try to see if anybody will take him at half of his salary. This will be interesting to watch. He could also go to the Los Angeles Kings.
I have just been told that don't be surprised if Khabibulin gets waived through the league and then ends up in Russia. Interesting speculation.

Interesting indeed!

So do we dump Gerber and grab Khabibulin? I think Khabi done for the most part but it would give the Senators confidence.

Nah. I think we should stick with Gerbs. I think he is going to have a good year and if the team plays good around him he will be just fine.

I am a huge fan of Gerber.. I know he wasn't the best last year, but the team, the dressing room and the antics by some (Emery, Redden, Grats etc..) really takes a toll on players.

6.75 mil, even 3.4 mil is too much for Khabibulin.

If it was 2003...maybe.

To be perfectly honest, goaltending is mostly mental. The team needs to focus on Gerber and giving him the mental boost he needs to know that not only is he #1, but the team will actually play for him and back him up. Give the guy some confidence and he'll regain his form (not like he really lost it all that much last season).

Goaltending isn't our problem. Our biggest problem is overall team defense. A goalie can't stop 4, 5, 6 rebounds in a row while five skaters stand around the net picking their noses.

What an opportunity for the Sens! A chance to get a goalie who can actually stop a puck! Don't forget he has recently won the cup &, if he was Canadian, would have won the Con Smythe as well. He would ensure the Sens a playoff berth & a legitimate shot at playoff success. They should have got him last year.
