BlogsFeb 05, 2010Jury out in Leafs Nation
A sudden halt in anti-Leaf, anti-Burke, anti-Wilson e-mails to this corner can only mean the recent trades and promotions met with grudging approval from the populace, at least for this week.
Much has to be done of course, and Burke needs to get back a high draft pick, even a good second rounder, to make the draft a little more bearable for fans. It’s good the Leafs have socked away $6 million in cap space for the present with Mike Komisarek off the books for four to six months, but Dion Phaneuf’s salary rises this summer, too. Many Leafs talked about going on a roll with the new players, but good luck doing it the next three games, Jersey tonight on the road, Ottawa here Saturday and San Jose on Monday. After that, give the Leafs a chance in about half their remaining 22 games. Joe Drexler, founder, of Be The Game Sportswear, passes along a note on an initiative to support families who can’t afford to register their children in minor sports. His Be The Puck line of products, includes a $7 car magnet, that pumps every $2 back to support children who cannot afford to play. The company’s general sales have a community fund to assist in sponsoring children. Many pro players are getting on board with the program.
