With today being the Casino Rama Grill Room's 1,000th show what better way to celebrate than with a fresh new edition of
Coco & Dugas! Hold your applause, please. Anywho, this week we talk about Tigergate, Ken Hitchcock lovin' the Leafs, who's to blame for the Raptors terrible defence, should the Argos move to BMO and the 2010 World Cup.
If there's another topic that you want to rant about feel free. You're also welcome to tell us how good looking and smart we are; although I do have a picture of Dugas in a rather
revealing Santa Claus suit that may or may not make you throw up in your mouth.
1) With it being pretty obvious that Tiger Woods has cheated on Elin, how do you think this mess will effect Tiger's legacy as one of, if not the, best golfer(s) of all-time?
Dugas: I don't think it will affect him as a golfer. You will look at him with a sly smirk now and know, but he's still the greatest golfer we have ever seen. Things like this don't affect the ability of the person in question.
Coco: To say it wont effect him as a golfer is a little short sighted I think. Sure he's a global icon and has millions, if not billions, of dollars but he's human as well and everything that's happened to him in the past two weeks or so will definitely effect him mentally. With that being said, I think it will help him in the long run as he'll be even more focused to win some golf tournaments to help put this behind him.
2) Do you agree with Ken Hitchcock that the Toronto Maple Leafs are a playoff team?
Dugas: In ways I do, in ways I don't. The Leafs certainly are staying true to the recent trend of up and down play. The Leafs have a lot of good pieces on this team and for the first time in awhile some good young talent. I believe that if they came together as a team from the start that they could be contending for the 7th or 8th playoff spot this year, but growing pains need to be expected with such drastic changes over the last little while.
Coco: I'd love to agree with Hitchcock...but I can't. The defence finally seems to be coming together as a unit and playing well, but there's still questions in goal and up front Phil Kessel and Niklas Hagman are the only players I see that can be counted on to score consistently. I just don't see the Leafs as a team that can make the next step to the playoffs yet, but with the terrible point system currently in place it will still give Leaf fans hope for the opposite.
3) Who do you blame for the Toronto Raptors horrible defensive play so far this season: Chris Bosh, Jay Triano or Bryan Colangelo?
Dugas: B.C. and Triano? I am a big believer that Triano is too soft of a coach. I feel that the head coach needs to be a bit harder on his team and hold them accountable. He isn't there to be your friend, but because he was an assistant in Toronto for so long I feel the relationships between him and players is too casual. Of course B.C. puts together this team and he has added some good players but they all play soft.
Coco: For me it has to come down to who's on the court and the leader of the team...Chris Bosh. Most people seemed to agree that with the additions of guys like Reggie Evans, Antoine Wright and Jarrett Jack that it would help to improve the team's defence and toughness. Triano spent a large part of training camp focusing on defence and defending "their house". I agree Jay is too soft of a head coach, but in the end it comes down to the players and I don't see Chris Bosh as a Kevin Garnett or even Dwight Howard type who can inspire and elevate the play of his teammates.
4) What are your thoughts on the Toronto Argonauts trying to move to BMO Field?
Dugas: I think it would be a much better surface for them to play on, however I don't think that I am sold on having a modified size field to do so. We will see how it pans out but for now with that the case I hope they stay at Rogers Centre.
Coco: I agree that it'd be great for the Argos as a franchise but would be bad for BMO Field, especially with them putting in grass for the 2010 MLS season. I think the Argonauts need to get out of the Rogers Centre and into a new environment to help attract some new/more fans but until they can find a sure bet place to play they're better off just hanging out at the Rogers Centre.
5) Now that the pools are set who are some teams to watch out for in the 2010 World Cup?
Dugas: Being in South Africa for the first time there is a general consensus that Ivory Coast will have a good showing, but they got a really tough draw with Portugal and Brazil. I am also interested to see how defending Olympic Gold Medalists Argentina and Nigeria play out.
Coco: I've always been a fan of Argentina and agree that although they're in the "Death Pool" that Ivory Coast could make some noise. I think the US will surprise while being lead by MLS MVP Landon Donovan and the great showing from this past summer's Gold Cup. In the end my pick to win it all is Germany.
Take off,
Coco
