Jay Baruchel not moving to L.A. despite rising profile
The Trotsky star Jay Baruchel is definitely his mother’s son, having her maiden name (Ropell) tattooed in large letters on his forearm, which he helpfully explained to Sun Media who noticed the large skin tag during TIFF interviews.
So despite his rising profile, recent films have included Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up, the Montrealer has no plans to move to L.A.
“God no! I’ve been acting in the states since I’m 18, I’m 27 now, I would have moved a long time ago,” said Baruchel. “It’s just not for me. It’s for a lot of people. A lot of people love it. And some of my best friends in the world are there. And I some of my fondest experiences are there. But I’m a Montreal boy.”
In fact, he just bought his first home a mere five blocks away from his mother’s in the same Montreal neighborhood he grew up in.
“That should speak volumes about why I’ll never leave,” said Baruchel. “I’m close to my family, close to my friends, I love that city, that city is my spiritual centre. It’s where my cat (Mary Minou) is. It’s just my home.” Minou, he explained, “is stupid Quebecois slang for kitty.”
