No deal, says Muckler

Senators GM John Muckler just told colleague Bruce Garrioch there’s no deal in the works to send Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson to the Los Angeles Kings.
Not that I would expect Muckler to say, “Yeah, I’m going to trade his butt out of here.”
The fact there were four Kings scouts at the game would sure make you think they were looking at somebody on the Senators or the Habs.
One of those two teams is struggling right now and it’s not the Canadiens.
The rumours, of course, are going to concentrate on the Senators because people think they need a deal to shake them up.

Well, someone's got to go. Muckler for bad trades, Alfie for seemingly not caring, or the coach for not motivating them enough. Didn't Murray say the other day that some player's just don't want it enough? Ok, bench them and don't let them bring down the guys like Neil and Fisher who are holding the team right now and the only guys that are playing with a fire in the bellies. It's his (Murray's)job to get them going, and so far it ain't working.

There is no way the Sens will EVER win a cup with their current roster. The lack of leadership on the club is astounding. People keep saying - "Trade for a veteran". One question - how long do you have to be in the league (and on ONE team) to be considered a vet? 10 years (Redden anyone?) Or more? (oh wait, yeah Alfredsson). I'll say it again - the current Sens team will NEVER win a cup. No leadership, no grit, no desire...they simply don't want it enough.

There is no one on the Kings roster worht trading. First person that should go is Muckler - he chose Redden over Chara? Then maybbe get something good for Alfredsson
or better yet get rid of Redden as Corvo is the same kind of player, only smarter. Even if Alfie sticks around, strip him of the C and stick it on Fisher, or Neil, or some one who cares. Oh yeah, and alot more ice time for Vermette.

He should have been traded instead of Hossa. The guy is a playoff flop and now it seems a regular season flop to. He has to go or we can look forward to another early exit from the playoffs……if we make it that far.

If this trend continues into Dec. Sens need to pull a Philly. Muckler didn't listen to the fans and trade Alfie and let Chara walk when he could have kept him for prolly only 500G more than Redden, who is a lesser talent. Murray is not the burr up the butt coach that this team needs either.

Muckler's full of it. I found it strange how he gave Ian Mendez an interview last night. Something fishy is going on there and I think Alfie's on his way out. I hope Muckler pulls the trigger.

I don't believe we'd get any trade value for him from the Kings

And this isn't the time. I say we support him for the year and re-asess at the end of the year. IF we can make it deep in the playoff run, I'd be happy.

I don't expect a cup this year. We're not use to the new faces that need to step up

"Keep it up Muckler" ya, just keep trading all your strong players....see what your left with!
You should have listened to the fans, no....we should have never traded the best defensman, or lost Havlat, so ya, now lets jump on Alfie and blame him eh? Who does he have to play with now? He isnt a one man show! You screwd up with Hasak too.... maybe it is your time to leave and let Murry handle things now! Keep the good players... duh! Consider trading Phillips! Bad decisions !
Give the guy a break, he needs a 'team' to play with!

Ya, now Muckler looks to make a deal. An Alfredson trade before the season could have freed up cash for Chara and Havlat. Muckler has done nothing but bad for this team. Fire Muckler. He oopsed his way out of a possible disaster in the Hossa for Heatley trade. Lucky for him Heatley turned his game around when he came to Ottawa. Muckler has taken a Stanley cup team to the brink of disaster. Thanks John, One day we will get a cup, but not under him. SENS4EVER

No trade value, are you kidding me? What about Conroy or Cammalleri?? One's a vet the others a rookie but both have great value for a player who seems like he wants out of Ottawa. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see the Kings trade their future in Cammalleri, the guy reminds me of a young Robitalle. But I think it may benefit both teams both long and short term. Give the Kings players a bit more credit/value; although I do have to excuse the Ottawa fan since they do not see as much West Coast hockey as I do, especially here California.

Wow! Everyone is ragging on Muckler. 1 - Havlat was a good trade, he spends most of the season hurt and that will not change. 2 - Chara is over rated. Look at his performance in the playoffs last year. Speed ate this guy up, and teams are getting faster. Corvo was an excellent addition. Gerber?? Not much out there at the time, we will see. Muckler sees Emery as a NO#1 anyway. Murray?? Great coach, no worries. You will see Alfie go within the month to the western division. I love the guy, but he should never have had the "C" in thew first place. Ottawa needs a #%$* disturber for a captain right now. Maybe Iginla will be on the market?? Someone do the math for me, maybe we can deal Gerber as well. Thanks for the memories Alfie.

If Muckler wants to finally "pull the trigger" on a desecent trade in Ottawa I think Alfie for Vincent Lecavalier. The sens would have one of the leagues best 1 2 punches downnthe middle and I'm almost positive Lecavalier plays with Vermette in the summer. So that will get Vermette going on the second line scoring and then the Lord Stanley's Cup is sure to follow...Put this in the Sun Stevenson.

I'd second that Jason. Lecavalier would be a nice fit, although I wouldn't want to meet a pissed-off Alfredsson come playoffs. Then again, Alfredsson doesn't show up for the playoffs anyway. Nice call.

Lecavalier would not be the leader we so desperately need. Have you seen the Lightning play this year? They have basically had the same problems we have in Ottawa, lack of leadership. Yes, he's producing more than Daniel, but he isn't what this club needs. We have plenty of goal scorers.

I say keep Daniel, but not as a captain. With less pressure he may just start lighting up the red light. Trick is finding a real captain out there, and I can't think of any that are available.

I am not an Ottawa Fan but it is only 10 games in and already you die hard Ottawa fans want to dump the Captain, he is one of the best play makers. Always a Montreal Fan.

Alfie, personally needs to go. He seems to lead the team in the wrong direction. Just look at the past playoff performances. As for the idea that Lecav. brings no leadership. Please review the tapes from the Calgary/T Bay Final from a couple of years ago. Sure richards got them to the final. But Lecav. got them the cup. That is what you call leadership.

Why does everyone continue to blame Alfie for past playoff failures? With any kind of decent goaltending Sens would have been had far more success over the years. Can you tell me a deadline trade that ever helped? I think poor management hurts more than a lack of leadership.

We don't need to trade Alfie. We'll regret it. We need a quality centre to play with him. Alfie needs help and Schaefer and McAmmond are not the solution...those guys should be playing the 3rd line.

The Senators no longer deserve a player of Alfs caliber. As a Toronto fan I can say I hate him but dam he would look good on Sundins wing. How about Andropov and several other stiffs for one Alfy

Time for Muckler to go. He's brought in Smolinski, de Vries, Corvo, and Gerber --- all overpaid. At the same time, he's lost or gotten rid of Hossa, Havlat, and Chara. He could have kept Havlat or Chara if he hadn't signed both Corvo and Gerber. $3.7 million for Gerber? $2.5 million for Corvo? Have these players really proven that they are deserving of this kind of salary?
