Canadians at second stage of Q-School

Brad Fritsch of Manotick had a 73 and is four shots back of a qualifying spot after one round at the second stage of qualifying at the PGA Tour's Q-School at the Deerwood G.C. in Kingwood, TX.
Fritsch is tied for 47th with the top 19 spots and ties making it through from this site - one of six - to the final stage of Q-School.
J.C. Deacon, a Toronto native, is the top Canadian at Deerwood with a 68 and is tied for sixth.
Brantford's David Hearn is tied for 23rd after a 70 and Ben Ferguson of Ancaster is tied for 54th after a 74.
Texan Brandt Jobe leads after a 65. The second of four rounds goes tomorrow.

Canadians alive at Q School

It's never easy to get through the second stage of Q-School, but 18 Canadians will give it a shot starting tomorrow.
Maybe they can take a little inspiration from Stephen Ames winning on the PGA Tour again.

Ames wins Disney

Canada's Stephen Ames won the Children's Miracle Network stop at Disney, shooting a 64 in the final round today and then winning a three-man playoff on the second holed.

Q-School: Canadian update

Former Manotick resident Brad Fritsch has advanced through the first stage of qualifying at the PGA Tour's Q-School.
Fristch had a 73 today to finish in a tie for eighth for the 72 holes at 2-under. The top 21 and ties at Pinewild C.C. of Pinehurst-Magnolia advanced to the second of three stages.

Also advancing there was Ryan Horn of Dauphin. Man., (also T8) and Ancaster, Ont.'s Ben Ferguson (T15).
Missing the cut were Canadians Andrew Holbor, who plays out of Coppinwood (ON) at T54 and Jerome Blais of Magog, Que., (T57).

In Valdosta, Ga., Big Break PEI winner Derek Gillespie of Oshawa missed the cut, finishing in a tie for 61st. Craig Hicks Of Tecumseh, Ont., finished in a T58.

At Lakeland, Fla., Matt Johnston of Winnipeg didn't make it through as he finished 49th. Greg McAuley of Surrey, B.C., finished T61.

At Lantana, Tex., Calgary's Jamie Kureluk is tied for 17th with one round to go and Regina's Kent Eger is T25 with the top 22 advancing.

At Hollister, Calif., Barrett Jarosch, a 26-year from Edmonton who went to the University of Denver and played the Canadian Tour this year, is leading through 54 holes after his second-straight 66. Stuart Anderson of Victoria is T3.
Calgary's Ryan Yip is T19.

At Santee, Calif., Mitch Gillis of Williams Lake, B.C., is T41 through 54 holes.

Q-School: 4 more Canadians advance

First year pro Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford. B.C., tied for fifth in Port St. Lucie, Fla., to advance out of the first stage of qualifying for the PGA Tour. Hadwin has some success playing on the pro tour around Vancouver and won the Big East title in his final season at Louisville last year.

Also advancing from Port. St. Lucie was Quebec's Keven Fortin-Simard, who tied for 11th.
Missing at that site were Toronto's Peter Laws (by one stroke, tieing for 23rd) and Mac Bourgeois (T50).

At Auburn. Alabama, Vineland, Ont.'s Adam Short advanced with a ninth-place finish and Toronto's J.C. Deacon, a University of Nevada alumnus who played the Canadian Tour this year, made it right on the number with a tie for 21st.
Missing was Vancouver's Dean Kennedy (T61).

At Drayton Valley, in Dayton, Nevada, both Adam Speirs of Winnipeg (T50) and Jeff Puska of Ladysmith, B.C., (T53) missed.

First stage will continue at six more sites next week.
